Diagnostic radiologist, wellness educator join Medical Center faculty
Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.
Mark A. Bisesi, M.D.
Dr. Mark A. Bisesi, a diagnostic radiologist with more than 20 years of experience, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of emergency radiology.
After receiving his B.A. in English literature from Miami University in 1984, Bisesi earned his M.D. at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1988. He completed a general surgery internship from 1988-89 at Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan; a radiology research fellowship in MRI and the evaluation of diagnostic systems from 1989-91 at Michigan State University; and a diagnostic radiology residency from 1991-95 at Michigan State University. He subsequently completed a thoracic imaging fellowship from 1995-96 at Indiana University. He also earned his M.A. in English literature at Michigan State University in 1993 with a focus in Medieval studies.
Bisesi joined the Michigan State University faculty in 1996 as an assistant professor of radiology. He subsequently practiced body imaging at Southern Indiana Radiological Associates, Inc., from 1997-2019. He served extensively in practice management throughout his affiliation with SIRA in roles that included president, vice president, treasurer, director of medical imaging at the SIRA Imaging Center, chairman of the SIRA Imaging Center and radiology section chief at Bloomington Hospital.
Bisesi’s current interests include focused practice in emergency radiology, observer performance in an emergency setting, and potential implementation of machine learning in emergency radiology practice. An active member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Emergency Radiology, the American Medical Association, the American College of Radiology and the Radiological Society of North America, Bisesi is the author or coauthor of 10 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has given 10 invited presentations at scientific meetings nationally and internationally.
Tanja L. Bisesi, Ph.D.
Dr. Tanja L. Bisesi, wellness educator, therapeutic yoga teacher and owner of the Enlighten Wellness Yoga Lifestyle Studio, Bloomington, Indiana, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor and wellness officer in radiology.
Bisesi received her B.S. in speech pathology and audiology in 1986 and her M.S. in speech pathology in 1987 at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. She then served as a speech therapist for the local Talawanda City Schools in Oxford. She worked as a research assistant and instructor at Michigan State University, East Lansing, where she earned her Ph.D. in educational psychology in 1997. Bisesi then served as coordinator for literacy assessment research and development at the Center for Innovation in Assessment and studied health promotion at Indiana University, Bloomington. She also provided pre-diabetes lifestyle coaching, therapeutic yoga and pilates mat and reformer instruction at the Monroe County YMCA and her private studio, Enlighten Wellness, both in Bloomington.
The author or coauthor of six articles in peer-reviewed journals and nine conference papers, Bisesi has given seven invited presentations and workshops nationally. She is an active member of the American Diabetes Association, the Society for Public Health Education, the American Public Health Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Educational Research Association, the International Assocation for Yoga Therapists and the Yoga Alliance.
